July 30, 2024Jul 30 comment_4135958 In the states our Diesel engines are already equipped with the DEF" diesel exhaust Fluid system" it consists of a tank and a special injector to inject the very corrosive fluid into the exhaust system the computer must be programed to inject the DEF correctly to change the hydrocarbons to a uric acid type of emission which falls to the ground. I keep a spare jug of the stuff in the back of my pickup truck and have to refill the DEF about every 500 miles. each fill up costs about 15 us dollars. the exhaust system is stainless steel to deal with the DEF. If you run the DEF tank dry the computer puts the vehicle into "Limp mode with a max speed allowance of 30mph until you refill the DEF Tank You get a running warning of how many more miles left in the Def tank.
August 5, 2024Aug 5 Author comment_4137997 We’ve ordered a 67 plate DAF LF150 FA cab & chassis with 203k km on the clock, guaranteed for 6 months with a new custom made horsebox and basic living area. The only thing I was interested in was the colour RAL7004 which is signal / Nardo grey. Will hide the inevitable branch scratches better than a darker colour. In the U.K. some Euro 5 trucks have the Adblue exhaust after treatment, which reduces Nox, but still don’t qualify for Euro 6 which is needed for low emission zones. In fact some trucks are even Euro 6 but not ULEZ compliant. Euro 7 comes into effect next year.
