Posted November 26, 2024Nov 26 comment_4167273 It’s a very long time since I had an air rifle (last one was a Sharp Innova). I remember Weihrauch were the go to gun back in the day so had a look at Holts auction and there seem to be plenty about at good prices. I would be using it for pigeons in sitty trees where the shotgun is too noisy so would go .177 but what model to go for? Ideally need 11ft/lbs or more, what does the HW35 knock out power wise? Any other models I should consider? Cheers
November 26, 2024Nov 26 comment_4167289 Have you considered a moderated .410? Most single shot fully moderated versions (like the Baikal Hushpower) can be as quiet as a springer air rifle with subsonic cartridges and easily as cheap as a decent air rifle and scope combo. That's what I would be using for your scenario where you already have an S2 FAC. Just a thought!

Perhaps you're right - in that case I'd recommend a .22 springer (.22 gives better terminal energy over distance). You won't go wrong with a modern BSA, Weihrauch or Air Arms. They'll all be around 11 - 11.2 ft lbs out of the box. Not sure though that I'd bother with Holts though as my experience has been that most of the stuff in their auctions that seems cheap, is cheap for a reason. A good secondhand airgun from a local dealer is probably a better bet and will often come with a suitable scope. Anyway, good luck in your search. Even as a keen rifle and shotgun shooter, I still believe a good air rifle is an essential tool to have to hand.

November 26, 2024Nov 26 comment_4167482 Agreed! (I actually have an Air Arms TX200 HC) but no bottle or fills required for a springer with just occasional use......how about..."buy once, buy right, buy simple to run"?
