For those who've won on the sealed bid auction before do you hear the same day usually? I understand you hear nothing if you've not won.

I had a few bids in, both a bit over the top estimate and was hopeful but heard nothing yet!

    Yes their system is…slow and very much manual. They do publish a list of ‘prices realised’ which you then can manually compare against a lot number. Then, usually about 3-5 working days later you get an invoice for the total amount from their team. Including a…strong packing & shipping charge. Only at this point do you find out for definite if you’ve won. Following payment you’re invited to submit to the vagaries of RM to send your SGC/FAC merry journey to Norforkshire and back. About a week later your RFD will have your purchase in his hot sticky paws, and it only remains for you to cross his palm with silver & you’ll get your bang-stick.

    Personally I’ve given up with them; too many dreamers pushing the prices up well beyond retail.

    You might get a bargoon if you’re lucky & live within sensible driving distance of Sixfingershire.

    All that notwithstanding, hopefully someone will pitch in with news of a purchase of the bargoonus variety.

    Both those 20 bore Macnabs were advertised as having ventilated top ribs which of course was wrong. Both had solid ribs. I am surprised that Holts got that wrong as they are normally fairly accurate. Be interesting to see what they went for as the estimates of £300-£500 were fairly low, but as often happens with auctions purposely low to gain bidders interest.

    As already said, MacNab Highlanders are lovely and much underrated guns.

    As long as you made a note of the lot numbers you bid on, you can check on the prices realised chart which went up yesterday evening. If the price is what you bid there is a good chance you won it.

    I won a lot once and never received the email I had to chase it up by phone.

    Do you have a link to that chart? I can't see anything showing for the sealed bid prices yet??

    Once you got the prices for the sealed bids printed late on the day now it is sometimes on the following day or maybe   2 or 3 days later  If you check you lot against  the list you may think you have won that lot  but there  is often several bids  of the same price  for the same  lot  so the first one sent is the winner.  Do not forget the postage  has most of the represented  valuation days do not now do the purchases  of the sales .Another  fault is too many foreign  enters with extra  VAT on the hammer price.

The purists will moan but what I get is 70mm chambers and an Anson rod forend rather than a Deeley edge or Hackett snap catch and...the biggest benefit "proper" shape hammers. For those that don't know means hammers that you can open the gun using its top lever when the hammers are cocked. Yes English hammer guns are a joy when in good order but, alas, too many are really worn out.

    I will look out for that when I'm next in a position to buy. I do have a couple of underlevers which work fine both have been checked by a gunsmith though

    A heads up just in case anyone might be interested , in the Holts unsold lots Lot 3008 shooting bundle there’s a brand new picatinny rail for a beretta extrema ( over £100)amongst the flasks etc. Buy it now price is now £39.
